Responsibilities: We are seeking a full-time, entry-level Production Designer for our Markham-office Newspaper team. Reporting to the Managing Editor, The Lawyers Weekly, you will be responsible for design and layout, and will assist the editorial and sales staff with production and administrative tasks. You will be responsible for:
- Performing ad design and layout for The Lawyers Weekly, The Bottom Line, and the Ontario Reports in QuarkXPress
- Processing images
- Managing workflow throughout the production cycle in order to adhere to production schedules
- Checking for, anticipating, and correcting production/layout issues
- Updating, maintaining, and creating graphic elements for The Lawyers Weekly and The Bottom Line web sites
- Uploading content to the Quicklaw® service (the newspaper archive system)
- Providing administrative, editorial, and sales support
- Liaising with clients, advertising sales, editorial, and printers
Qualifications:
- Certificate in Graphic Arts or Design, or equivalent training
- Proficiency with PC computers and with graphic design software including QuarkXpress, Adobe® Photoshop®, and Adobe® Illustrator®
- Excellent production and typography skills
- Print knowledge
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Exceptional communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as a team as well as independently
- Publishing experience (asset)
- Adobe® InDesign® knowledge (asset)
- Web knowledge (asset)
