LexisNexis Enhances Legal Research Solutions Around the Way Law Practitioners Work

Quicker and more accurate legal research made simple with Australia’s most comprehensive ‘one stop shop’ research hub.

LexisNexis AU is an online legal research solution which houses quality legal sources offered by LexisNexis, including leading titles such as CaseBase and Halsbury’s Laws of Australia. In response to the feedback from comprehensive customer research, the LexisNexis AU interface has been redesigned to harmonise more closely with the workflow of legal practitioners, improving ease of use and reducing research time. The service is now even more intuitive with improved navigation to better support lawyers’ workflows.

Mike Russell, General Manager – Legal Markets, LexisNexis Australia, said, “Our customer research illustrates that professionals generally approach research in two ways. They check current legislation, seek supporting cases and then compare expert opinions, or they start by checking supporting cases first, then reviewing current legislation and expert opinions.”

“As a result, we have synchronised our core research portfolio to match a lawyer’s workflow whether they commence their research with either legislation or case law, which has been welcomed as dramatically simplifying and speeding up the research process.”

Hosted on LexisNexis AU, LawNow is a full text legislation service, which contains Australia’s largest collection of historical versions of Acts and subordinate legislation in one database. It provides access to full-text current Australian legislation, with new legislation added within six to 72 hours of being passed through Parliament. In addition, LawNow includes comprehensive Bill information such as a detailed description of the purpose of the Bill, its history and its impact.

Enhancements to LawNow include direct links to CaseBase and government websites to the Act level as well as expanded jurisdictional coverage to incorporate all Australian jurisdictions. The service is designed to align with a lawyer’s workflow and make accessing the right information easy and fast, with minimal training requirements and significant improvements to productivity. From every piece of Australian legislation, legal practitioners can obtain research results with just a single mouse click to the entire range of LexisNexis products relevant to that piece of legislation, and can then easily narrow results to suit their needs.

Among the key issues facing information-overloaded legal professionals today is their need to increase billable hours, reduce time spent on administrative and research tasks and ensuring that the information they use to make critical decisions is accurate and current.” Mike Russell, General Manager – Legal Markets said, "Research plays a central role in the range of tasks performed by legal professionals and the workflow of their day. By using LexisNexis’ online research as a central source of information, lawyers can be confident that they are using the best all encompassing information source for legislation, cases and commentary when compared to other services.”

LexisNexis AU and LawNow are currently used by all types of professionals across the legal industry, including academics, barristers, judges, knowledge managers, law librarians, solicitors and law students.

"The upgrades to LexisNexis AU and LawNow are a clear demonstration of LexisNexis’ ongoing commitment to providing the most effective and economical legal research service available. At the end of the day, it is about helping our customers work smarter, save time and to provide the best legal service possible," said Mike Russell, General Manager – Legal Markets.
